History of Paoli Wesleyan Church
The original church, located on North Gospel Street, Paoli, Indiana, was dedicated on December 12, 1943, at The
Pilgrim Holiness Church.  Rev. S.V. Reprogle was pastor at that time.  Records of earlier years are not available.
On June 26, 1968, The Pilgrim Holiness Church and the Wesleyan Methodist Church of America were united to
form The Wesleyan Church.  Rev. Leonard Tincher was pastor in the early 1970's and Rev. Darrell Jones was pastor
in the late 1970's until May 1982.

The church used a supply pastor, Robert Jones, until June 1983, when Rev. Carroll Rex Manship was voted in as
full-time pastor.  At that time the membership consisted of Loleta Kendall (last charter member of the original church),
Rolla and Dovie Dillard, Robert and Dora Marshall, and Bertha Wininger.  Other attendees were Sophia Lovall and
Charley and Louise Wininger.

On May 14, 1989, the church moved to 308 South Oak Street and under the direction of Rev. Manship where it
grew to an average attendance of 150.  Consequently, the church once again experienced growing pains and began
construction on yet a bigger church which was completed on September 22, 1995 at 601 SW First Street.

Following the completion of the church an anointing service was held on September 23, 1995.  Those assisting
with the anointing were Luther Shipman, Bill Pierce, Dale Barnard, Billy Laws, Roger Elliott, and Charles Drury.
The congregation was led in singing praises of Thanksgiving by Rev. Manship.  The following day, September 24,
1995, the first church service was conducted in the new church.

On October 22, 1995, formal dedication of the church was conducted with Dr. O.W. Willis, former District
Superintendent providing the message.  Other dignitaries at the dedication were Rev. Marvin L. Hughes, District
Superintendent, and Rev. Monty Mahoney, Assistant District Superintendent.  The song service was led by The
Hamilton Family.

In September of 1999, after devoting 17 1/2 years of service to the church, Rev. Manship took on a semi-retired
status and assumed the position as Assistant Pastor.  His son, Rev. Lyndel Manship, who had served as Assistant
Pastor of the church for 3 years, was voted in as Senior Pastor.  Served as pastor until October, 2006.  During his nearly 10 years as pastor, the church grew in many ways.  Many persons were won to Christ and the physical facilities were improved dramatically.  Several classrooms, a new kitchen, and a fellowship hall/gymnasium were added.

Pastor Bob & Vivian England came to Paoli Wesleyan February 1st, 2008 to be Pastor.  The church had been without a pastor for 16 months.  The church leaders had done an excellent job in keeping the church ministry viable, alive, and worshiping.

Under the leadership of the England's the church is reaching into the community.  Through church ministries like, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, vibrant and worshipful services,  a growing and active Teen Ministry, Kids Club Ministry, Senior Citizens Ministry, Ladies Ministry, Spiritual Formation classes Sunday mornings, and there is Children's Church Sunday mornings during the regular worship.
